Etimology of America The origin of the toponym "America",comes from the by the cartographer Martin Waldseemüller, the used this name on a large map of the area. The name America was derived from the name of the explorer,Americus Vespucius, who is supposed to be the first that, discovered America as a new continent (while even Columbus had, believe that he had discovered a part of India). But there are also other theories like: can be a derivation from the district of Amerrique in Nicaragua (a,gold-rich district), or that can be,derived from Richard Amerike (a Welsh merchant who financed John Cabot's voyage). |
